The curriculum conforms to national, state, and denominational standards by means of instruction that combines the best of tradition with sound innovative practice. The academy is accredited by the Seventh- day Adventist North American Division Commission on Accreditation and by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Los Angeles Adventist Academy appreciates every student as being unique and of inestimable value. The school offers quality Christian education without regard to race, religion, national origin, or gender.

Academy Guiding Principles

Foundation

Los Angeles Adventist Academy exist to accomplish a fundamental scriptural directive which clearly mandates “And all they children shall be taught of the Lord....”

Philosophy

The Academy is a Christian learning environment that educates service-oriented leaders and scholars for eternity. It is established on the principle of God as Creator and human beings as His accomplished masterpieces who seek the Lord’s divine purpose for their lives. The school, which perceives that every human being is of inestimable value, is also founded on the premise that all true knowledge and wisdom come from God whose plan for building Christian character involves the harmonious development of mind (mens), body(corpus), and spirit (spiritus). The academy therefore seeks to fulfill its basic conviction that the Lord grants knowledge and wisdom for use in service to God and to humanity in both this world and the world to come.

Mission

Los Angeles Adventist Academy is committed to academic excellence in a nurturing Christian environment where students build noble character, develop exceptional leadership, and render unselfish service.

Goals

Students are expected to glorify God through excellence as:

Positive, maturing Christian leaders

Confident, effective communicators

Critical thinkers and problems-solvers

Responsible, productive citizens

Service-oriented, lifelong learners

A COMPREHENSIVE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE

LAAA educational program offers students a comprehensive experience which is comprised of aspects that are designed to enrich the mind, body, and soul.

CURRICULUM

The academy curriculum includes required concepts, skills, content, and values for each course. The curriculum has been derived from national standards, adopted curriculum guides, and resources combined with data on student achievement.

FINE ARTS

LAAA celebrates and nurtures the gifts and talents of all students.  Various classes are offered to address students’ interests such as choir, drama, band, handbells, and praise dance which include performances throughout the year.

STEM

LAAA’s curriculum is enhanced with Science, Techology, Engineering and Applied Math instruction .  School-wide STEM exercises are conducted throughout the school year like Pi-Day and monthly Eagle Pride Days.  For students who have further interests in these areas may join our GEARheads Club where robotics, coding and critical thinking skills are developed.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE

LAAA’s curriculum includes a foreign language for all grades K - 8.  Research shows that students who study a foreign language in their early educational experience outperform those who do not. Our emphasis is also to provide our students with the foundational knowledge and an inherent appreciation to thrive in a multicultural society.

FAITH-BASED LEARNING

LAAA operates a Christ-centered educational program that encompasses the mind, body, and soul of every student.  Thus, every activity and lesson is designed to show the beauty of God and His creation. Each school day begins with a devotional time with God. Weekly spiritual-based assemblies and quarterly service-learning projects are also provided to deepen relationships with our Heavenly Father and our fellow man.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

LAAA provides activities that supplement the overall educational program.  Our athletic program includes competitive teams in flagball, basketball, track, volleyball, cheer and gymnastics.  Student leadership organizations give students opportunities to have leadership roles in planning, organizing and executing programs for fellow students.

Our History

Los Angeles Adventist Academy (LAAA) is a Kindergarten through eighth grade coeducational; Christian school sponsored by Seventh-day Adventist churches of the southern and southwestern Los Angeles metropolitan area. LAAA operates as part of the school system of the Southern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventists under the auspices of the Pacific Union Conference of Seventh- day Adventist.

Established in 1923, the academy relocated when construction of its present site was completed in 1946. It subsequently eliminated grades 9-12 and operated as a K-8 school from 1955-1993. Operation was restored to a K-12 status in 1993 when secondary students from the former Lynwood Academy transferred to Los Angeles Union Campus. As of June of 2018, Los Angeles Adventist Academy became a fully accredited Kindergarten through eighth grade program.

The curriculum of LAAA conforms to national, state, and denominational standards. LAAA is accredited by the southern California Conference of Seventh-day Adventist Board of Education, the North American Division of Seventh-day Adventist Commission on Accreditation (a division of a worldwide church organization headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland), and by the Western Associations of Schools and Colleges (WASC). This accreditation provides an efficient transfer of credits to Seventh-day Adventist Schools and high schools both public and private.

Seventh-day Adventist schools are recognized throughout the world for high quality balanced instruction. LAAA takes pride in its National Merit finalist. Annual statistics indicate that at least 75 percent of its graduates finish college or universities and subsequently enter service-oriented professions. Los Angeles Academy is also known as the former school of four distinguished college presidents.

LAAA provides quality education to students without regard to race, religion, national origin, or gender. It is founded on the belief that all true wisdom and knowledge comes from God, and that education involves the harmonious development of the mental, physical, social, and spiritual aspects of each student.

LAAA has served the South Los Angeles Community with caring, credentialed teachers throughout its history and continues to maintain a reputation of distinction in the community for longevity of Christian service and accomplishments.
